Why you should be blogging

In-bound content marketing is, by far, the most engaging form of online marketing. So, why aren't you blogging?

Let me see if I can guess:

  • Not enough time in the day
  • You don't consider yourself a writer
  • You're not confident with your spelling and grammar
  • You have nothing to blog about

These are all legitimate concerns, but, I strongly advise that you put them aside for a minute and give blogging a real shot.

Who you gonna blog?

Start by thinking about who would read your articles and why?

Who are your best clients or customers? What advice do they regularly come to you for? How have you helped them, with knowledge alone, in the past? If nothing comes to mind, try flicking through your inbox and sent messages folder. You may have even written a few articles already!

Not enough time in the day? Don't sit at your desk waiting for inspiration to strike! Instead, be prepared for when it might. Use a dictaphone to record your thoughts. There's one in your pocket, it's called an iPhone and there are loads of free dictaphone apps.

Don't consider yourself a writer? Stop comparing your ability to a that of a professional journalist. Perfection is just an excuse anyway! Throw caution to the wind and simply type up your recorded thoughts.

Do your editing at a later time, but don't be too precious, your writing skills will naturally improve over time.

Stick to a regular schedule

Consistency is key. Decide in advance how often you are going to write a post and stick to it. When writing, the fastest way to lose traction is to become inconsistent.

This is by far the hardest strategy to follow, so come up with a mechanism that works for you.

Posts don't have to be long, aim for 250 words, that's only 30 minutes of your time.

Try setting aside a designated time every day or write a whole heap in one go and stagger them out later.

The benefits of blogging are huge

Blogging adds valuable, long lasting content to your website and simply put, the more content you have, the more likely some of it will be read and shared. Speaking of which, be sure to share every post yourself on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn etc.

So give these simple strategies a shot, and before you know it, blogging could become a natural part of your everyday life.
